About Hays Marine Boat Transport

Jim Hay, the owner of Hay's Marine Boat Transport, has been in the marine industry since 1987. His experience in boat building, owning and operating a service facility for most of his adult life, and being actively involved in the boating community, has all contributed to the success of Hays Marine Boat Transport. Quite frankly there isn’t another boat transport company in the country that has the experience under their belts that we offer.

Hays Marine Boat Transport got started accidently! When Jim who was starting up his boat repair facility, due to the new uprising of DEQ regulations did not want to have his boat shop on the water. He felt it was more ecologically sensitive and would pose less bureaucratic problems to have his shop close but not on the water. The concept of hauling boats out of the water with specialized boat hauling trailers was not new, and in fact in the North West had been employed for years. Jim started designing and building boat hauling trailers and using them to pull boats out of the water and move them to him repair facility. So now not only did he service boats in all capacities, but he had the equipment to haul boats for clients to vacation destinations. Boat hauling became a satellite operation of his service facility. Jim started hauling boats to the San Juan Islands, hauling boats to client’s back yards for the winter project they had. Boat hauling for other service facilities and dealers was an added bonus. And then came along E-Bay!!!

When his existing clients started buying boats nationwide and needed the services of boat hauling, he started to get talked into transporting boats from across the nation to home. Jim enjoyed performing boat hauling services for his customers and Hays Marine Boat Transport was born. Jim retired out of operating a service facility and started operating his boat hauling service full time.

Bringing his knowledge of boats, he quickly learned through feedback from customers he had an edge on the competition. Most of his competitors were dot com companies that merely crunched numbers, and did not have the background knowledge to properly access their needs. Not all boats are the same. Jim intimately knew boats literally inside and out. His service facility serviced Power Boats, Sailboats, Trawlers, and commercial vessels. He personally built his own Sailboat and cruised it extensively. He has owned both Trawlers and Powerboats.

Jim personally drove truck hauling boats nationwide for a number of years. In that time he developed a following of dealers, brokers and service facilities nationwide that relied on his Boat hauling services. He also met and befriended other owner operator boat haulers that specialized in transporting boats, oversize in nature, nationwide. His business soon grew to be too busy for him to meet everyone’s needs and he started enlisting friends who were in the industry of hauling boats to service his customers. After running four to eight trucks at a time and still hauling boats himself, quickly he realized that it was time to get out of the truck and get an office!

Today Hays Marine Boat Transport moves oversize boats nationwide, including Mexico and Hawaii. Occasionally getting involved in International boat transport to Europe and the Caribbean. Below are some fun snapshots of times gone by that helped Hays Marine Boat Transport evolve into one of the nations leading boat haulers. Today we provide the following services: Powerboat Transport, Sailboat Transport and Yacht Transport.
