Boat Transport Of The Month
July, 2007
Overview
We were initially brought in to transport this Boat from Huntington Beach, California to Anacortes, Washington by Les and Betsy Gunther at the end of July. Being a large oversize Boat was only part of the puzzle involved in moving this Boat. It was also constructed in wood in 1933 by the Stevens Boat Company. It measured 55 feet long, 13 feet wide and 13 feet tall. It weighed 56,000 lbs. The Boat was a beauty, and not damaging her in transport was of paramount concern. Wooden Boats if not transported properly will "open up" due to movement while being moved if not loaded properly by a competent driver. Les went as far as to send his agent of hire to California to ensure it was properly loaded and ready for shipping. We were given the thumbs up upon loading and everyone concerned was in accordance that it was in good hands. As you can see by one of the pictures, when transporting oversize Boats we don't get to stay on the highway system all the time. We sometimes get re-routed to smaller roads to go around obstructions and road construction. The trailer was stretched out 16 feet to carry the keel as flat as possible, also to reduce the overall height. We use this particular trailer on all tall Boats that need to be transported. This trailer enables them to be as low as possible to keep the costs down and of coarse, safe. This trailer and truck are federally rated to carry a gross weight of 140,000.00 lbs.
Customer Review
Hi Jim,
Many thanks for the pictures. They show what a great job you and your people accomplished in shipping SEA DOG from Southern California to the Seattle area. Transporting a seventy four year old Boat that's 55 feet long, and weighs twenty-two tons for over 1500 miles required extraordinary skill and knowledge, two commodities that you and Kenny, your driver obviously have in abundance.
Congratulations and thanks for a job very well done.
Les Gunther
